advertising space in the local paper and run the column as a public
service, attaching your name to it. It is definitely a tactic worth
analyzing if you in the professional service business.
The biggest
disadvantage is that the paper will want to label it as an
advertisement. This defeats the purpose of the column format. The
second disadvantage is that these columns are typically generic and
educational in content. They don't do anything to set you off from
your competition. All of your marketing efforts must convey the
benefits of selecting you as their provider. For these reasons I
don't recommend the use of these products.
If you like the
format of these products write your own column that promotes you in
